Biodiversity Offset Assessments

Terratree consultants have gained substantial experience in the area of biodiversity offset assessment and negotiation with both State and Commonwealth agencies. By understanding current issues, precedents and legislative changes, Terratree offers strategic advice to clients when determining and negotiating appropriate environmental offsets with the state Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) and Commonwealth Department of the Environment (DotE).

Our approach

We use the Environmental Protection Agency Guidance Statement No.19 Environmental Offsets – Biodiversity (EPA 2008)

in conjunction with a thorough understanding of the biodiversity values being impacted to determine appropriate environmental offsets. The primary objective is to implement appropriate direct offsets on-site where possible, to demonstrate a ‘net environmental benefit’. If Direct offsets are not achievable on-site then the Direct and Contributing offset sequence put forward in the EPA Guidance Statement is followed. In all cases, we attempt to achieve positive environmental outcomes while reducing the regulatory burden on our clients.
